Meenakshi temple
Meenakshi Temple is one of the largest temple complex in
India. It is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Parvati who is known as Meenakshi.
Even the original Meenakshi temple was built by Kulasekara Pandya and is
dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are 12 massive gopurams in the temple that look
really inspiring. The thousand pillared halls are constructed with creative
architecture. The entire temple complex are shined by a series of diyas.
Mythical Animals and grotesque figures are carved on the temple walls in bright
colors. The temple complex has five entries. Each covers an area of 254.1m to
237.6m long and wide in north-south direction which is surrounded by smaller
chapels and large pillared halls. Recently in the list of the Seven Wonders of
the World, Meenakshi Temple was one of the nominees for the new seven wonders
of India
Brihadeeswara temple
Brihadeeswara Temple is located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
This temple is the main attraction of Thanjavur which is dedicated to Lord
Shiva and has a high Shivalinga 2.7 m. Has a massive idol of Nandi (bull), the
mount of Lord Shiva, which has a height of 3.6 m, length 5.94 m and 5.56 m
width. This idol is sitting on € Nayak Mandapam ', which is nicely decorated.
This temple is built in artistic style and has a large stone work. The carvings
on the walls are in Sanskrit and Tamil. And the interesting fact and sunbathing
is to be shocked and amazed when the shadow of the dome can not be seen on the
ground. This magnificent temple is also counted among the leading and famous
temples in India.
